The ombudsman's office
About us
The Swiss Travel Industry Ombudsman plays a key role as a mediator in disputes between customers and travel companies. Since his appointment in 1990, he has established himself as a neutral authority that not only helps in the event of disagreements, but is also called upon by the media and consumer organizations to support complaints. With a small team of three people, the ombudsman ensures that customers' concerns are taken seriously and that a fair solution is found.
Where does the name "ombudsman" come from?
The term has its roots in the Scandinavian language area and means something like mediator, representative or authorized agent. Originally, the Justitie-Ombudsman was created in Sweden in the early 19th century to act as an administrator or trustee of the administration of justice. The role of an ombudsman is to prevent unfair treatment of individuals or groups by acting as an impartial authority in disputes. This is particularly important for people whose concerns are often not sufficiently heard because they do not have a voice. The Ombudsman ensures that the interests of these groups are taken into account and thus contributes to fairer treatment in society.
